What is a weblog?

A weblog is a personal web site that displays information such as headlines, news, articles, and other sites of interest, and these are compiled on the site. It is a discussion or informational site that is created and published to the World Wide Web. Weblogs are created in reverse chronological order with the most recent post first and are created to maintain and allow interaction to be made with other bloggers.

How can I use the blog for personal and professional use?
A blog can be used as a personal website and professional at the same time. For personal use, I could create a blog on recipes. I could include the recipe, a picture of the meal, and ways to change it up or other food groups to create the meal. If I were going to use a blog for professional use I could create one for my classroom. This would be a great communication method for teachers, parents, and students. I would include important messages, homework, upcoming tests, and ways to help children succeed. Blogs are created for individuals to voice their opinion on topics, personal use, and for educational purposes.
What is an Acceptable Use Policy and why are they important?

An Acceptable Use Policy also known as an AUP is a set of rules that are created for a network, website, or computer system. These rules restrict the way the network is used. An Acceptable Use Policy is concise and clear and it covers important points for what users are and are not allowed to do with a computer system within a specific organization. The policy is important because it protects students and establishes guidelines for a safe and rewarding high-tech experience.

What does the AUP I researched have to say about a resource like Gmail?
The Florence City Schools AUP will be used in accordance with any and all district policies and procedures. Also the AUP will be used with local, state and federal laws, and guidelines governing the usage of technology. Florence City Schools will provide resources that are available via the Internet with appropriate information to meet curricular needs. The use of Gmail is prohibited. All students will not use any type of direct electronic communications except through Gaggle.net and this is provided by Florence City Schools.

Florence City Schools Acceptable Use Policy and Guidelines

Each student must obtain parental permission which will be verified by a signature to use the internet at school.  All information technology resources will abide by guidelines and will filter the technology to prevent access to certain aspects for minors. Florence City Schools as a part of the AUP will monitor the online activities of minors for appropriate use, prohibit unauthorized online access, and prohibit unauthorized disclosure of use and dissemination of personal identification and if names need to be used it will only be the first of the students. The school system will educate all students on the appropriate online behavior, profane, abusive and impolite language will not use used in needs of communication and users will be held accountable for their actions. The use of information technologies created in sync with the acceptable use policy of Florence City Schools will serve as a guideline for internet activity.
